5 Things I hated in the last 10 years

It just wouldn’t be me if I didn’t take a tiny bit of time to tell you the media-related things I hated the most in the last decade.  Here we go, judge away.

1) The Killers

2) Garden State

3) Across the Universe

4) Kanye

5) Shark Tale and Nacho Libre - the worst damn movies I’ve ever seen.

I can’t say I don’t agree with you on some of the above list. However, what good is a blogger (of which you are one of the better) if he/she doesn’t delve into their list and describe every juicy detail of his disdain/emotional treachery/hatred for this list?

I request some details.

1) The Killers - This band made a rhinestoned mockery of rock music that everyone ate up over the last half of the decade.  Don’t even get me started on their Joy Division cover.  Also, “I’ve got soul, but I’m not a soldier” was possibly one of the worst lyrics I’ve ever heard… ever.

2) Garden State - This was a taste-by-association disaster.  It irks me that even in college people still assume everyone liked this movie. The first part is fine since it’s pretty funny, but then when they try to get “deep” it turns into a total shitshow.  So boring and empty.

3) Across the Universe - I knew that most people were split just about 50/50 on this movie, so I figured I would at least like it a little bit.  Alas, it was awful to actually make me question The Beatles.  The second-rate covers brought out all the weaknesses out of the Beatles songs that weren’t nearly as apparent in the originals.  Across the Universe should have been a stage musical before a movie.  MAYBE then it wouldn’t have been so god awful.

4) Kanye - There’s no use in even explaining this one.  I understand that it’s “part of his thing” to be an asshole to everyone all the time.  I’m not okay with his thing.  As far as I’m concerned, Gold Digger (a damn good track) was his peak, and I honestly can’t think of anything else I’ve enjoyed from him.  His public mishaps (“George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” the european VMA’s, beating up the paparazzi, Bonnaroo ‘08, ‘09 VMA’s) are just the icing on the triple layer cake that is my hatred for Mr. West.

5) Shark Tale - more like SHART Tale.  I hate mediocre movies way more than truly awful ones.  At least if a movie is awful you can laugh at it.  If I remembered any details about Shark Tale, I would write them here, but I’ve blocked the entire experience out of my memory.

Nacho Libre - This the only movie date I went on in all of high school.  I payed $18 so that I could see this shitstorm of a “comedy” with a girl who would reject me just days later.  There are weaker and more mediocre comedies of the decade, but none that I hate more than Nacho Libre.  That said, I still love Jack Black unconditionally.

Dear Belmont, it’s okay to dislike things openly, even if you know other people like them.  You don’t have to tiptoe around expressing dislike for something.  Please do attempt to act your age every once in a while.

Thank you Stephen. Now I can rest with the peace of knowing the derivatives of your decadeal hatred.
